Know your customer. Learn how to use external enrichment APIs like Clearbit, Hunter, and Apollo to automatically find company names, LinkedIn profiles, and verified emails for your leads.

Module 8 Lesson 4: Data Enrichment

When someone gives you their email, that's just a starting point. To sell effectively, you need more: What company do they work for? How many employees do they have? Where are they located? Data Enrichment automates this research.

1. Clearbit: The Person/Company Lookup

  • The Flow: You send an email address -> Clearbit returns 50+ fields (Bio, LinkedIn URL, Job Title, Company Revenue).
  • n8n Action: Update your CRM (HubSpot/Salesforce) with this new data immediately. Your sales team can now call the prospect knowing exactly who they are.

2. Hunter.io: Email Verification

  • The Problem: You have a name and a domain, but you aren't sure if the email is first.last@company.com or first@company.com.
  • The n8n Solution: Use the Hunter node to "Verify" the email before you send it to your CRM. This keeps your "Bounce Rate" low and your email reputation high.

3. Apollo/FullContact: The Database Search

If you only have a Company Name, you can use these tools to find the "Decision Maker."

  • "Find me the Head of Engineering at SpaceX."
  • n8n retrieves their details and prepares a Slack alert for your executive team.

4. Cost Management (The "If" check)

Enrichment APIs cost money per request ($0.10 - $1.00).

  • The Pro Tip: Only enrich "High Quality" leads.
  • Logic: "If the lead uses a Gmail/Yahoo email, ignore. If they use a custom work email, trigger Clearbit."

Exercise: The Researcher's Bot

  1. Get a free API key from Hunter.io.
  2. Use the HTTP Request node to check if sudeep@sudeep.com is a valid format.
  3. If you get back a "Company Name" from an enrichment tool, how do you save it to a specific Google Sheet? (Review Module 7).
  4. Why is "Data Enrichment" essential for a sales team with 100+ leads per day?
  5. Search: What is the "Clearbit Logo API" and how can you use it to put a company logo inside your n8n-generated invoices?

Summary

Enrichment allows you to turn a "List of Emails" into a "List of Opportunities." By connecting n8n to specialized data providers, you automate the time-consuming work of prospect research and ensure your team always has the full context before they hit "Send."
